    CONSULTING / COLLABORATING

Its normal for a photographer at any stage of their career to hit a road block, lose perspective, and feel deflated, whether creatively or inspirationally. It’s the real smart shooter who recognizes it and says “I need a tune-up, I need to be inspired” That’s where I can be an asset.

Over the years, I’ve been able to partner with photographers and have had wonderfully positive results. The reason for the success is that we collaboratively found ways to move the creative process forward that was emotionally as well functionally achievable.

I always have an indominable thirst for being a facilitator and creative rejuvenator. Using my diverse experience of working with creative folks at ad agencies, galleries and museums has proven to be the perfect breeding ground to ascertain the “light bulb” moments when teaming with photographers.

Collaboration is about an explosion of ideas, with both feet firmly on the ground, that with intellectual conversation can become a reality. Think of our collaboraton sessions as an incubator for liberating ideas.

    BUSINESS PRACTICES

The process of running a photography business like any business can be an intimidating task.

Weather it’s estimating, negotiating or writing a creative brief it’s not easy and the task can feel insurmountable. Most photographers are not comfortable in this space for fear of not knowing what the client wants or what to charge. You find yourself getting lost in the numbers, anxiety creeps in and the opportunity is lost.

Estimating is about creatively separating yourself from the competition and connecting with your client. Plain and simple it is a nuanced approach that leads to successful bids and being awarded jobs.

My approach is always collaborative, for any project we must work as a team. Crucially important, we’ll project a unified seamless approach to the client.

Over the years, I’ve estimated jobs for every genre of photographer from commercial to photojournalist. I’ve built my reputation on being fair, insightful and professional. I’ve worked with most ad agencies and with almost every art producer.

If you have a project or want to truly understand the business side of our industry feel free to reach out. Together, we can tackle any brief and submit a responsible bid that will represent your creative vision.

  • "A few years ago, I went to see a talk given by Frank Meo, the Photo Closer. I don’t recall the entire talk. But I do recall he spoke about working with a photographer who got awarded a large shoot that involved traveling worldwide to shoot what she shot best. It was her first such shoot I seem to recall. He spoke about the entire process from the early quotes and negotiations to the production of the entire shoot. And the follow up. I left the talk thinking that the unthinkable (getting a large shoot like that with an agency) might actually be thinkable. And I also left thinking it would be really fortunate to have a guy like that in my corner..."

  • "Cut to some time later when an agency contacted me (marketing does work the way we want from time to time!) about doing a large scope shoot in the style which I shoot in and was showing. Before working with Frank I might have asked some questions, but maybe not all the relevant questions. So I asked Frank if he could do the quote for me and produce the shoot as well. I wanted to get to the locations, and do the shoot and work with the creatives to give them what they need for their client. I didn’t want to worry that the other stuff (kraft services, makeup artists, stylists etc ) which would be happening simultaneously.

So in short, Frank opened up an entire new world for me. One which, once I saw the entire process from start to finish, became a lot less intimidating. And now Frank is my my corner when I need him. And that has opened up an entire new world of possibilities for me and my business."

  • "I reached out to Frank ("The Photo Closer") when I was referred to him by a friend. I was on a tight turn around for a competitive photo project and knew having a professional like Frank to help me submit a strong and winning estimate for the project was needed. Frank came through in record time and helped me land the largest project of my career to date. Having the help of an industry professional made all the difference...THANKS FRANK!"

  • "If you know Frank, then you know he stands out. In my experience working with this consummate professional, time and time again, Frank uses his years of experience to turn every situation, however tricky, into an opportunity. Frank is able to quickly recognize the potential to achieve a positive result, and "has mastered the ability to teach others how to do this. Let's face it, bidding a job, even to the seasoned professional is challenging, and Frank has a way of helping negotiate personality as well as the numbers, logistics and all that goes into nailing a bid and being awarded the job. Often, during an experience of dealing with a demanding client or prospective client..."

  • "or prospective client, after conversing with Frank, I feel that I couldn't pay him enough for his prompt attention, his genuine engagement in my creative process and his insight. That being said, Frank's fees are one business expense that I am happy to budget for, as I always feel that I am getting way more than I actually paid for. Needless to say, I very highly recommend Frank Mayo and the photo closer. If you don't yet know Frank, I would strongly recommend seeking him out as a business ally, your expectations will most certainly be exceeded."

  • "We recently worked with Frank Meo, thephotocloser.com and Photographer Lori Grinker on a International Citibank project. With a very tight schedule to produce 9 ads in 4 different countries, we were nervous about the execution. Not only was it unbelievably fast and smooth, but the work was absolutely beautiful! Lori worked as a team player and made the shoot come to life. It was a treat, working with Frank,Lori, and Crew!"

  • "Frank Meo is a problem solver. He was able to weigh out the pros and cons of a prospective photo deal and help me to make a successful photo shoot come to life! He truly has the knowledge and guiding support to make potential business deals a positive reality.

  • "I had heard of Frank Meo from industry news and events and recently a friend of mine and I had been talking about thephotocloser.com. We chuckled about the name, which I love. It's what we as photographers want: no muss, no fuss; nail down the job and produce it efficiently. So recently, when I found myself preparing a licensing quote for a major advertising agency, I thought I'd reach out to Frank, inquiring about estimating services. He responded right away with a call, offering his assistance with the estimate. After chatting with him for a while, I felt as if I had been speaking with a colleague I've known for years. Frank stayed committed to me throughout the negotiation, offering his..."

It made a usually nerve-racking process smoother and calmer with his experience and patience, and even kind of fun with his excitement and energy. The first thing I learned about Frank was his understanding of the value of building relationships; he didn't charge me a dime. After wrapping up the five figure license, we went to lunch to celebrate and decided to continue working together. Reaching out to Frank proved to be a great idea. He is a valuable resource and I feel confident having him and his capable team there for me whenever I them."

  • "Over the years I've worked with a myriad of commercial, fine art photographers and photojournalists. Although personality has a lot to do with how well a photographer and art director work together, the process that is in place for the photographer and art director to connect and collaborate is of equal importance. Frank Meo has set out to represent some of the strongest photographers in the world. He understands how different the responsibilities of an art director and a photojournalist can be on a daily basis, yet he is able to create a line of communication for both to succeed, and together, create powerful imagery. Every assignment is different and anticipating what is needed..."

  • "for each to succeed, is a faculty only gained through years of experience working with both parties. I don't want to have to worry whether the elements I need for my job to be successful are going to be there. I need someone to help anticipate that for me, so my dialogue with the photographer is clear and unhindered by things that have nothing to do with the image itself. Finding someone like Frank, who can facilitate such a process, has inestimable value."

"He also makes a pretty good sauce. A little on the acidic side, but good none-the-less"
